Roadwork Starts

AUGUST 04, 2006 - The long-awaited work on the road to the church has now begun after years of waiting.

When you are traveling to Iglesia Bethel, the paved road ends and the last quarter mile of your trip is on a dirt road, that is often muddy and strewn with garbage and other debris. [Click on any picture to view larger picture.]

We will miss that old road . . . NOT

Bethell_photo1The old road was a bit of an adventure to drive down. It was a very bumpy ride to say the least.

In rainy weather, it was simply impassable.

The bright side was that there were several spots where rocks stuck through the dirt. This gave us a place to step when crossing the road so that we did not sink into the mire.

All of this fun and adventure is about to become a distant memory.

About two weeks ago, wooden stakes began to appear on the road and rumors started to fly that the roadwork was about to begin. The heavy equipment showed up this week and the dirt began to fly.

Early in the week, it was rainy and the road was a muddy mess. On Friday and Saturday, the weather was nice and the dirt dried out.

The dirt movers took advantage of the good weather and worked all day Saturday up until it got dark. Towards the end of the day Saturday, some engineers were marking levels for final grading. Concrete cannot be far away.
